Review by Tom
Frank Los Angeles is a small house based here that specializes in scents that are "bold and unique, yet minimal". Sounds great for the start of what may be a scorching summer...
Frank
A bright citrus with minty green tea, it has a nice woody dry-down with hints of clove. This is one that I think I would use like a cold compress in hot weather. It's light without being insipid and simple without being boring. It also lacks the chemical elements that are usually found in most "simple, clean" scents: it won't remind you of Woolite.
Frank #2
Opens with a zing of bergamot (what doesn't these days?), but quickly gets to whispers of coffee, woods and spices. I was told by someone that they wouldn't think of wearing it in summer, but I can't agree: it's just not that heavy. I'd happily wear it in the worst heat.
Frank #3
This opens with melon. Melon is a note that usually makes me want to die, but here it's true to the honeydew and mercifully fleeting. When it dies out it leaves a nice sagey lavender that dries down to a skin musk and with a bare whisper of oakmoss.
Okay, I have to write that these aren't necessarily me: my days of inoffensive little scents are long past. I like mine to swing for the fences, and I will decide by application whether you're going to smell it or not. What I can appreciate about these is that they are very well made: linear and smooth without that underlying cheapness that almost always underly scents at this price-point from larger companies (*coughCKn2ucough*) If you are looking for a very well-made light scent with good lasting power at what I think is a very reasonable price ($65 for 65 ml) you should go to the Frank Los Angeles website's store locator for a store near you.

Frank-ly , i dont think i would like this scent
ReplyDeleteSee you on the fence for some swinging.
ReplyDelete*sits on the fence with T and L*
ReplyDeleteI liked Frank No 2 quite a lot, but something about it...I don't know...something just not quite there.
To escape this i would not seat on a fence but on some roof i dumala kak by vysze
ReplyDeleteI think I'm past wearing inoffensive little scents (or what I call "pretty little things") as well. :-)
ReplyDeleteAm definitely with you in craving scents that swing for the fences. I am going to have to try No. 3, but I don't think it sounds like something I will need. The first two, however, actually are scents I love.

Isn't it awful that our craving for then ext new thrill really leaves perfectly nice little scents sitting unplucked?
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, give me something outre and almost unwearable, and I'm all over it.
Hey, these sound GREAT. They look good, they're reasonably priced, they don't sound like Cool Water, and everyone needs something that isn't military-strength.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your Woolite comparison. Clean has so many scents lined up at Sephora, I'm going to email them and recommend Clean Woolite.
PS Once AGAIN I talked a guy at Sephora out of Cool Water and into Terre d'Hermes. Just doing my bit for all mankind.;-)
Sounds like something I could get my boyfriend to wear (He can appreciate more "interesting" scents on me but he is clearly a guy who wants inoffensive on himself.)
ReplyDeletedoes the first Frank smell anything like Ineke's Chemical Bonding? Just wondering...
ReplyDeleteviola-
ReplyDeleteYou might not if you aren't into the lighter scents
lee-
ReplyDeleteSee you there!
Columbina- sit right down!
ReplyDeleteFor me I just wanted them to be a bit more definite, but I suppose that would ruin their whole schtick.
Viola-
ReplyDeleteThey really don't need escaping- they are far too likable for that.
newproducts-
ReplyDelete"pretty little things" just about says it all
Elle-
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you love them- actually you should try #3- the melon note is not bad, and doesn't stick around. The drydown in quite nice- I just wanted a little more oomph from them all, and that's not what the line is about
patty-
ReplyDeletethat's it exactly! Sometimes we're so busy dancing on the razors edge we overlook nice little scents..
Frank's a perfect example
March-
ReplyDeleteI agree on all counts: and good for you on the Cool Water!
BTW- I think some Sephoras carry Frank
jenavira-
ReplyDeleteThese are ones that I would happily by for a BF- I'd love to curl up with someone wearing any of these
arhianrad-
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried any of the Ineke's yet but they are on my list
Wow, I totally disagree that #2 is light and pretty. My husband wears this all the time (it was his signature scent until he discovered Ormonde Jayne Isfarkand) and on him it's a major blast of coffee and brandy and woods. Definitely strong and great for winter.
ReplyDelete#1, I agree, is nice smelling and inoffensive.
#3 might be nice for me - I actually seem to be able to wear melon scents. Never seen it sold anywhere as yet.
twibbet-
ReplyDeleteI think my skin chemistry neuters #2, or perhaps I've gotten too used to big loud scents. I did really like #2 a lot- as a matter of fact it was my favorite of the three.
I actually liked all three of these- they just weren't quite me.
