Providence Perfume has recently introduced solid scents, which "are blended in a base of pure shea butter, beeswax and oils. The soft buttery consistancy is similar to the vintage solid perfumes of the 1950's and 60's without the added petroleum and chemicals of this era."
The composition of the fragrance I liked the most among them, Moon Flower also has a retro feel to it, perhaps due to its lusciousness, to the unapologetically animalic and earthy feel of the white flowers. The creator describes the scent as nocturnal, and it really is. Smelling it, I imagine white petals suggestively opening in the night, greedily drinking the moisture of the dark air...the carnal yet ethereal blossoms slightly sinister in their dazzling whiteness, on the black velvet background of the night sky...
We have one 1/2oz jar of Moon Flower to give away. For a chance to win it, please, leave a comment telling us whether you use solid perfumes and which one is your favorite.

I do have solid perfumes! Those that I own at this moment are AVON Tomorrow, Pacifica Nerola Orange Blossom and Aroma Candle & Scent Co. Honeysuckle. I find that they are very long lasting on my skin. Solid perfume application is a wonderful way to wear a fragrance. You can avoid the over-saturation and overbearing introduction to a scent this way. It gradually warms up with the body and releases that lovely scent as the day goes by.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity! Would love to try this (love the moon flower, I always plant one in my backyard so the moon can shine upon it).
I do use solid perfumes. My current fav is Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia.
ReplyDeleteI also like solids, so far I had two from Yves Rocher - Bourbon VAnille and Clea.. Thanks - Alica - alica@cleis.net
ReplyDeleteRoxana Villa's Illuminated Perfume. Q, Sierra Solid Gold, Chaparral...so many beautiful long lasting scents.
ReplyDeleteI don't use many solid perfumes, but I do enjoy Pacifica's Tibetan Mountain Temple in solid form even more than the spray. Thanks for the draw!
ReplyDeleteI've never used a solid perfume...well, I bought a solid from Pacifica, but I thought it was lip balm - didn't taste too good. I think I tossed it before I realized it was a solid perfume!
ReplyDeleteI use it and also attempt to make it. So far I've obtained samples from Roxana Villa, Velvet & Sweet Pea and Aftelier. I'd love to try this one as well as the rest of her solid and liquid line. Thanks for the opportunity to win Moon Flower. Laura Matheson
ReplyDeleteI've never used solid perfumes, and I'm really curious about that.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this giveaway, I love nocturnal flowers and I'd be glad to have the chance to try Moon Flower by Providence Perfume :)
I would love a whiff of Moon Flower. The Moonflower Vine is one of my favorite reads (it should be made a classic) and your description of carnal white blossoms against a black velvet sky captures the images conjured in that book. My current -- and only - solid is Waikiki Pikake by Pacifica. Thanks for entering me in the draw!
ReplyDeleteI have a small container of my favorite solid perfume, the chypre' Rue Royale by Hove Parfumeur, from New Orleans. My favorite for over 30 years! I also like some of the Crazy Libellule and the Poppies, especially to take to the gym, so I smell nice to me, but no one else gets perfumed out. I have to try some of Providence's offerings, I've heard good buzz!
ReplyDelete-Marla
I don't do much with solid perfumes, but I like the Pacifica line. Tibetan Mountain Temple is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI don't have many solid perfumes today, but when I was a teenager, I loved the Coty Sweet Earth perfume compacts. I had the "woods" one, which I loved.
ReplyDeletePlease enter me into the draw.
Thanks!
Ann C.
After I read a positive review of French Lilac I bought a bunch of solids by Pacifica. So far so good. The French Lilac is an exact replica of nature and the California Star Jasmine is euphoric! Solids are more portable which is convenient for reapplying during the day. The perfume stays closer to the skin than a spray, which is nice in summer. I daresay solids last longer in the humidity, but I may be wrong about this. The lower toxicity is a definite plus as well. Who needs more carcinogens and other junk in their system...we have polution for that.
ReplyDeleteI love solids, not least because they tend to be so cute and tactile. I have Philosykos in solid form in the gorgeous heavy black metal seal-shaped container, and the remains of a L'Occitane rose solid. I'd love a white flower solid, Moon Flower sounds gorgeous; many thanks for the draw
ReplyDeleteI do like solid natural perfumes- just now I put on Devotion by c.j. obuchowski. thanks for the giveaway....hope I get to smell it!
ReplyDeleteI love solids, especially for travel. My go-to travel perfume is either Sierra Gold or Vera by Roxanna Villa of Illuminated Perfumes. Both are beautiful and comforting. I also use the Miller Harris Tuberose one in it's very cute little pot.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried a solid perfume but this one sounds lovely. Thanks for the opportunity to enter the draw.
ReplyDeleteI love that picture! I haven't used solid perfumes much-only Satsuma from Basin.
ReplyDeleteI have never used solid perfumes before, but would like to try! Please enter me in the draw, thanks :-)
ReplyDeleteI have a solid of Diptyque's Philosykos, and I used to have Potion from Lush in a solid.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the draw, Moonflower sounds interesting...
I don't use solid perfumes very often but Charna's new solids sound worth testing. Actually I've been waiting for international shipping to become available on her webstore so I could order some samples. I'd really love to win this draw! Moon Flower is the one I've been especially interested in.
ReplyDeleteKatriina
I am curious about solid perfumes- not really my favorite type of scent but I do think highly of Providence Perfumes ! Moon Flower sounds lovely.
ReplyDeleteI do have some solid perfumes. Does anyone remember when the Avon Company used to make what they called sachets? Little jars of perfumed cream. As a child, I couldn't leave them alone when visiting my grandmother. I would love to be in the drawing.
ReplyDeleteStrange coincidence. Marina's blog about "Moon Flower" chimes with the text and picture in The Guardian's Country Diary entry about the "Ghost Moth" yesterday. (The ghostly chalk-white upper surface of the male's wings provides the "Moon" association, and a "goaty" smell that they emit to attract females suits the "animalic and earthy" description. The photo showed the fuzzy buff head and battered white wings of the Ghost Moth after it emerged from the soil beneath leaf litter, giving an additional earthy association.)
ReplyDeleteThis unexpected coincidence gave me the shivers, somehow; uncanny echoes across different fields of interest.
Putting my goosebumps aside, as it were, solid perfumes are great for anyone travelling, and I offer Lush's "The Oliver Branch" as my favourite solid perfume travel companion. The little tin lists Bergamot oil, Lemon oil, Orange Flower absolute and Mandarin oil in addition to "Perfume", which perhaps explains the gentle revitalising effect using it has on a weary traveller.
Enough of my ramblings - thanks for the blog, for the draw opportunity, and for giving the hairs on the back of my neck a workout:-)

Hmmm, long long time since I had a solid although I almost succumbed at Anthropologie just two days ago - a Le Labo...
ReplyDeleteThe idea of a solid is a good takealong whether for a quick outing or travel.
Please enter me in the draw, thanks.
What a gorgeous photo! I haven't used solid perfumes except for a brief fling w/the Crazy Liuabellwhatever they're called scent stick thingies when Beautyhabit first released them. I had several, and liked the incense one the best. But I'd love to try this. Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI love solid perfumes. I make them :) I like Bergamot from L'occitane but I am still exploring.
ReplyDeleteThanks for draw. :)
I would love to try this! I have a few solids, my favorites of which are Le Labo's Anthropologie line.
ReplyDeleteI actually haven't used a solid perfume since sometime back in the '70s- you could get things like Tabu in solids then. I loved that they lasted so long! And I would love a chance to win the Moon Flower- that's a heavenly smelling plant.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any solid perfumes, but this might be a good time to try one! Thanks for the draw. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have never used any solid perfumes but have thought about it because of the convenience of carrying in your purse or travel bag. White flower scents when done well are my true love though. Thank you for this opportunity to try Moon Flower.
ReplyDeleteMoon Flower sounds lovely! The only solids I currently own are by Pacifica, with Waikiki Pitake being my favorite. Although naturally I always hope to be nicely scented, I've never received more compliments on a fragrance by women and men. One day after I'd been at Whole Foods, where I buy my Pacifica scents, I'd tried several on various spots on my arms (I'm sure you've all done the same!), and as I walked out everyone asked me, "What perfume are you wearing?" - always wonderful to hear.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry - the compliments were FROM women and men - haha! Whoops!
ReplyDeleteLike many others, I have a few Pacifica solids that I like to wear in the summer or just carry in my bag for a scent pick-me-up. Thanks for doing this giveaway! This sounds like a lovely frag.
ReplyDeleteI have the Harajuka girls solely for the cuteness; I use the solid of l'Ombre dans l'Eau...AnnieA
ReplyDeleteI have quite a few solid perfumes from Pacifica and two from In Fiore. My favorites are Pacifica's Spanish Amber and their Tunisian Jasmine. Thanks for the draw.
ReplyDeleteI haven't used solid perfumes since i was itty bitty, I loved how the scent lingered close to the skin. mmmm yummy.
ReplyDeleteI use 'em! Pacifica French lilac, California Star Jasmine and Tunisian Jasmin. I also have the solid of Tocca Giulietta. I love the portability of solids and the fact that they seem to "bloom" a bit more than a liquied.
ReplyDeleteI've never used solid perfume. I don't know why and now I'm slapping my forehead after reading everyone's love of the solid. The portability and ease of application is appealing for sure.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this great draw!
I adore solid perfumes, especially in winter as I love how they cling to my clothes and scarf. I also use them in my hair to add a little shine and scent (and help tame the frizz... =D). My all time favourites are Cimbalom by Roxana Villa (Illuminated Perfume), Blossom (Tinderbox) and Jasmine~Orange Blossom by Laurie Stern (Velvet & Sweet Pea).
ReplyDeleteI've heard wonderful things about Charna's perfumes and am looking forward to trying them all!
I have to confess, the only solid perfume I have ever used was the My Sweet Sixteen perfume that came with the kids' makeup in the 80's! And that obviously does not count. I think it's time I tried a more grown-up solid... :)
ReplyDeleteMy current favorite for solid perfume is Roxana Villa's Lyra and Aurora - floral, long-lasting on the skin, and addictive in a very natural way.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites for solid perfume are:
ReplyDeleteLyra, Aurora, and Cimbalom....they last, are like none other, and completely natural.
I have only one solid: Lush's Karma. I love the concept and easy portability. And Moonflower sounds stunning!
ReplyDeleteAnother vote for Roxanna Illuminated's Sierra Gold solid here. I also really like In Fiore's solid compacts for travel - I wore Fleurs Blanches when I was traveling in China for a month last year and it was a perfect companion.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be in the draw. I have a few solids, from Yves Rocher, Pacifica, Crazy Libellule, and some Aftelier samples. I tend to find they have a bit less sillage and tenacity than sprays, but that can be a good thing. This fragrance sounds marvelous.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually use solid perfumes, though when I have, I get compliments. Especially on a violet scent I bought from an etsy perfumer...I'm a huge fan of Moon Flowers! Used to have aplant years ago that died and I haven't been able to get anothe rto grow well...
ReplyDeleteYum, Moon Flower sounds special. I have samples of Providence's fragrances, and my fave is Osmanthus Oolong, with a second to Cocoa Tuberose. I have some avon creme perfume, recently Outspoken by Fergie.
ReplyDeletePlease enter me in the draw. Thanks
Marion L.
I use solid perfumes, albeit not regularly. I loved Yves Rocher's Gardenia solid, but it was discontinued. Also, LUSH's Olive Branch, as I could never find the scent in spray version (I heard they made it at one point). I also love those perfume sticks from Crazylibellule, especially the original Shanghaijava collection and the newer Les Garconnes.
ReplyDeleteI've used solid perfumes, and want to love them more than I actually do. What intrigues me about this one is the absence of petroleum products, which has been my main turn-off with solids. I love the portability, and this brand sounds as if it would be less sticky than most. I'd love to try it!
ReplyDeleteI don't use a lot of solid perfumes but would love to start using more. My favorite is Lush Flying Fox Temple Balm....honeyed, jasmine heaven.
ReplyDeleteI use solid pervumes, lately Ive been using Yves Rocher Gardenia. This Moonflower sounds lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love solids-- their waxy closeness, and that you can take them on the airplane! I love Mandy Aftel's, and Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
Heidi
I do not have any solid perfumes, but I would love to try some- since I often reapply perfume on the go and they seem much more convenient...and Moon Flower sounds divine- a perfect introduction to solids!
ReplyDeleteI have only ever tried one -- Pacifica's Tuscan Blood Orange, which I love!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat giveaway!
i only have one solid perfume that my mother brought from her trip to Bukhara, Uzbekistan. i wish i knew what's in it as i love it dearly... it also comes in such cute ornamented ceramic pretty container!
ReplyDeleteYes, I use solid perfumes. So far my favorite is Ylang Ylang from the Cream Perfume Company. It smells wonderful, is long lasting, and is made with natural ingredients!
ReplyDeletekittenishcutie {at} gmail {dot} com
The only solid perfume I've used so far is Rock 'n Rose by Valentino. I do not mind those in principle I just didn't happen to get them.
ReplyDeleteCount me among those who like Roxana Villa's and c.j. obuchowski's solid perfumes. More specifcally, I like and regularly wear Roxana's solid versions of Q and Aurora. I occasionally wear Vera or Rosa or Chapparall too. (I'm also a big fan of her liquid perfumes, but that's another subject.) And I also wear and like c.j. obuchowski's Devotion It is quite lovely; I discovered it on a trip to Maui, so it has happy memories. I'd love to try the Moonflower if I'm not too late for the drawing.
ReplyDeleteNan
I've never used a solid perfume, except one really low-quality 'tropical' one my grandmother brought me back from Hawaii. It was intense; it smelled like someone's nightmare vision or mutant tiare flowers and coconut.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried a solid perfume but I think they would be great for travelling.
