Breaking News: Lanvin Rumeur scheduled to launch in September

According to Cosmeticnews.com, Inter Parfums SA is launching, this September, a new feminine fragrance under its license with Lanvin. Rumeur is described as a woody floral musk fragrance with top notes of magnolia, a heart of white rose, jasmine and orange tree blossom. The fragrance's base is composed of patchouli and musk. The fragrance was formulated by Francis Kurkdjian of Takasago "under the creative auspices" of Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz. The fragrance launches this September in Europe, the Middle East and the US where it will enter 50 Saks stores in a year long exclusivity period. After the year's exclusivity, Inter Parfums will expand distribution to 200 doors. The line consists of the EdP in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml at €36; €52 and €75 respectively. The 15ml perfume concentrate will retail for €90. The ancillary products include a fragranced body milk (€26) a shower gel (€24) and a deodorant (€20). More fragrances, male and female, from Lanvin can be expected in 2008, says Inter Parfums SA president and CEO Philippe Benacin.

Really love Kurkdjian's CD Eau Noire and Rose Barbare and am hopeful about her Bois d'Armenie, but am just a tad worried about Rumeur. I've sniffed the original and it was intense. My one complaint about Rose Barbare was the lack of a sufficiently barbaric tone. I'm concerned her Rumeur will be too polite, and not nearly scandalous enough. WHY can't they just rerelease the original???????

Elle,
I don't know why can't they just do that. I mean, ok, some ingridients might not be used anymore for various reasons, but still...we'll see how it goes... I am 90% sure it will be, as you say, too polite. Just as Rose Barbare, although most interesting and striking of the (at that moment) 3 exclusives, was not nearly barbaric enough to justify its name. (Am I going nuts or is Kurkdjian a he?)

OMG! Did I just perform a sex change on the poor man??? LOL! I have no idea. For some reason, I always automatically think of Francis as a female's name, but, of course he/she is not English. Well, hopefully he's gay and would thus be pleased. Of course, he's probably happily married w/ ten children and I've just added insult to injury. Sigh.

Gernerally, Francis = man, Frances= woman. But you never can tell nowadays:) Not sanguine about the possiblities here (for perfume, not gender:). Will make sure you are disappointed, too, M--just need a little time:)

Judith,
Of course you're right! Slaps forehead! Hopefully he will be sufficiently annoyed w/ me to inject some extra venomously dark notes in Rumeur. :-)

Elle,
I am sure he is quite gallant and will graciously brish it off :-) *Spritez Eau Noire to placate FK*

Judith,
I am looking forward to being disappointed then...to all but us this sounds extremely weird now. Oh well :-)

It's that promised magnolia note in the top that bothers me...I am having visions of L'Instant. Which is a lovely scent, but it's not what we want with Rumeur, right?

I share the concerns listed above. I've never had the fortune to smell the original Rumeur, so I can't say what it smelled like. However, an olfaction French research group lists it as a chypre-fruity. The description of the modernized version sounds like anything but. Yes, ITA. The new version sounds way too polite. And Colombina, if it ends up smelling like a water baby, well, you know the routine. Off with their heads.

Heads SHOULD roll for messing about with a moody, leathery chypre that is dark and growls in the original...it doesn't need the going-to-church requisite white gloves! Just say NO...leave wellenough alone!

J,
That's what caught my eye too, not in a good way. Magnolia...I have nothign against magnolia notes, but it seems out of place here. We'll see...

Oh my goodness, please, don't give Them ideas! :-) They might just do it to Cuir de Russie and Bandit.
