Monday Randomness: Lookalikes and a Prize Draw
It is not that I haven't managed to write a review over the weekend...it is just that I want to start the week on a fun note... And that is my story and I am sticking to it. Anyhow, here are some funny and at times startling similarities between perfume bottles, other perfume bottles and some unexpected objects. (Another post about bottle lookalikes can be found here.) The Pebble / Computer Mouse Trend: Nicky Verfaillie Grain de Folie (1982) VS Donna Karan Black Cashmere (2002) VS IUNX L'Ether (2003)  The Sunny Side Up / Eye of Sauron Trend: Pierre Cardin Paradoxe (1983) VS Paloma Picasso Mon Parfum (perfume concentration) (1984)  The Home Improvement Trend: L'Artisan's new packaging (2006) VS Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme (2006) VS A Bolt  Guerlain Shalimar (1925) VS Fragonard Billet Doux (2006 reissue of an old scent, which, given that Fragonard was established in 1926, still would have come later than Shalimar). Imitation is the best form of flattery, no?  Revillon Carnet du Bal (1937) VS Apricot Preserve  Caron Urn VS Samovar  Francesco Smalto Full Choke (2004) VS... ... (Gasps in the audience...Would she really dare to...?) ...  Car Shift Stick. What did you think it looked like, eh? Tsk tsk tsk. What a great way to start the week! Loved the comparison pictures and most especially loved the L'Artisan/YSL/bolt comparison. What was L'Artisan thinking? I can actually see YSL using it for their Homme fragrance, but L'Artisan? No.
LOL! I've always wanted to be able to hear what the discussion was around the table when they chose the Full Choke bottle design. *Had* to be one h*ll of a lot of laughter.
Am really surprised at the PC Paradoxe (which I've never even heard of) and the Picasso bottle. Fascinating!

Wonderfully funny post! Loved the eggs, in particular. Someday I'll learn the trick of taking professional looking perfume pictures like the rest of you (or rather, someday DH will learn it, since I don't do it at all:)
I'm a lured (not lewd) lurker and I loved your article. The concept of originality is unrealistic when we are so geared towards the recycling of all information around us.

I hate the new L'Artisan caps, they are definitely top-heavy and they add the unnecessarily butch/macho type to a line that never had and hopefully never will give such a vibe.

L'Artisan is trying to make their bottles and consequently their scents more appealing for men who are afraid to use anything even remotely, tiniest bit feminine...YSL's cap is excusable, it IS a men's scent after all, if they want to be stereotypical, it's their choice, but L'Artisan??

Hello Marina! This post brought a smile to my face on this, my first day back in the office for a couple of weeks. Now hopefully I am going to make you smile - I went to Haute Parfumerie in Harrods last week (met Roja Dove!! He invited me to sample his own perfumes!! Beyond wonderful but another story)Anyway - they have Diorling and Diorama. The only place outside Dior's hq in Paris apparently. It is the edt, 100ml bottles (so cute with their houndstooth ribbon!) for 52 UK pounds. They also will send it out.(And I checked that they'd send to the US - they said yes). Their telephone number is 00 44 207 893 8797 and fax is 00 44 207 893 8335. Or I'd be happy to go back buy a bottle and send it to you - we could sort out payment through paypal or something I'm sure. Nicola

You're welcome! I'm glad you've got your hands on Diorama after the slight scare a few weeks ago over its availability. I left HP smelling so divine (though I say so myself but Mr Dove agreed since it was one of his) and on such a high that I forgot to sniff Eau D'Hermes which they also have so I must go back....And I'd like Diorling too and there was an amazing Baccarat scent. Happy sigh.

the apricot preserves and the samovar are what got me this time. especially the samovar. very funny. full choke also looks like florida's state capitol building. except the capitol building also has buildings on either side of it that reinforce the image of um... well, you know... - minette
