It looks like there is only match between my Top 25 and the final Top 25, Attrape-Coeur (with which I very recently fell out of love, but that's another story), and I am not a big fan of the new No 1, Chergui... But that is fine. I am so happy that the evil reign of POTL, which has been Top 1 for two years, is finally over.

Many thanks to Kate (kateem) for doing the incredible work of collecting and counting our votes!

  1. Only one match for me, too: Bois Des Iles. I see my Apres L'Ondee and our shared Chanel 22 in the Honourable Mentions category, though, and I like many of top picks, including Chergui. Isn't it amazing how fickle we are? I think I'd change the list I posted in your comments and it's only been a month or something. It's usually only my top 6 or so that stay the same. The weather is currently terrible here, but if I were making up my list now, I'd still feel negligent if I left out my new summer faves: Osmanthe Yunnan, Timbuktu, Sous Le Vent and Worth Courtesan.

  2. Erin,
If your top 6 stay the same, than you are less fickle than I am :-) I don't think there is anything constant about tastes anymore, so bad.

  3. Three matches for me: La Chasse, Shalimar and Parfum Sacre.
I tried Chergui only recently, so I didn`t have enough time to fall in love with it. I did like it.
Some unexpected results - POTL at 7, Tauer at 10, La Chasse at the end of the list... But I`m glad she`s there!
    Paris is gone :(
    I don`t get Fifi. I don`t.

  4. B,
I am also surprised by the presence of West Side, just because it is so recent...on the other hand, maybe the recency actually explains it. What was your No 1? Mine was Dzing, and it didn't even make it into The List :-)

  5. What?! Not a single SIP on the list? I'm shocked! Hmph!
But I'm very glad to see a Serge in the number one spot. :-)
I can't even remember what my top 25 were now. I think I've blocked it since it was too agonizing of a process having to edit out so many beloved scents, but I know that at least 16 of the Fragrance Board faves would make it into an expanded list of my favorites.

  6. L,
Most of top favorites submitted in April are not even favorites anymore. I am so bad. :-(

  7. Not a big fan of Chergui either, but then... wasn't particularly enamored of the ol' POTL standby pick, either. Chergui weirds me out, because while I can appreciate its charm, I find it a fantastically awful candidate for actual wear. On anyone I know, anyhow... but then, considering POTL's past primacy on the top MUA lists and for recommendations to newbies, well, maybe me and the top selections aren't ever meant to be, heh. It's definitely an interesting list, specifically contrasted with the list from last year or before!

  8. Katie,
I am with you. It is definitely a fantastically awful candidate for actual wear as far as I am concerned. But is much better on me than POTL. Anything is, really.
I am surprised that Chergui and not Fumerie Turque made the list.

  9. Gee- I never reviewed Chergui? When I bought two bottles because I was flush and thought it was going away? I am easily distracted...

Wow, 3 of my faves made the top 10! Un Lys, Parfum Sacre & l'Air du Desert Marocain! I will consider it a major victory when/if Un Lys overtakes Chanel No. 5 one of these days. It deserves to, IMHO. :-)

And so nice to see Carnal Flower & SL Fleurs d'Oranger on there too. Carnal Flower would be in my permanent top 10 if I could afford it. It ought to be higher on the list than Shalimar and POTL, methinks. But that's just me, the big White Flower Queen talking.

Wow, 10 matches for me! I must be so average;)

  12. Tom,
I kept searching for your review of Chergui yesterday, because I was convinced there was one. But no, there isn't. And I was *convinced* that there was!

  13. Flora,
I agree with you, oh White Floral Queen! :-)

  14. Julia,
Nope! You have great taste. Because that is one impressive list!

  15. Wow, I had ten of my picks in the top 25 also. Add 2 more from the honorable mentions. I've kind of prided myself on not smelling like everyone else, now I'm wondering if I was fooling myself? Well, at least I know they're not the favorites in my neck of the woods! (because I come from somewhere where "neck of the woods" is a common saying!!!)

  16. Gail,
I think Fragrance Board are not Everybody Else. We are all perfume nuts there, aren't we? :-)

Hmmm....I'd have to remove all the Guerlains (my skin chemistry is Guerlain-averse) and Chanel No. 5 because it's too deeply associated with my mother, but otherwise that's a list I could live with. I confess that I haven't tried the Chergui -- an omission which I'll have to remedy. Only one of my personal top five is on the list, but I'll tell you this -- if I were to win a contest and the prize was a bottle of each of these top 25, I'd be one happy camperette! :)

  18. Teri,
I'd be happy to receive 17 out of these 25 :-)

  19. 2 matches for me too - Tabac Blond (my no 1) and L'air du desert marocain, and 2 more among the honorable mentions: Jicky and Cuir de russie. Glad to see Andy Tauer made it! And Comme des Garcons are among the top houses although none of their scents made it... I guess they have no obvious hits, except maybe the Incense series, Kyoto (which I personally don't like)?

  20. T,
My No 1 didn't even make it to the list :-)
    And yes, well done, Andy!

  21. M, mine was La Chasse.
    Dzing was No 13.

    1. L`Artisan La Chasse aux Papillons, 2. Caron Parfum Sacré, 3. Guerlain Shalimar, 4. Guerlain Après l'Ondée, 5. Christian Dior Dioressence, 6. Gres Cabochard, 7. Diptyque Olene, 8. Yves Rocher Nature Millénaire pour Homme, 9. Yves Saint-Laurent Paris, 10. Gres Cabaret, 11. Bvlgari Omnia, 12. Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Ceylon, 13. L`Artisan Dzing!, 14. Jean Patou Joy EDT, 15. Guerlain Météorites, 16. L`Artisan La Haie Fleurie du Hameau, 17. L`Artisan Drôle de Rose, 18. Serge Lutens Fleurs d`Oranger, 19. Balmain Jolie Madame, 20. Muelhens 4711, 21.
