First off, Orange Star does bloom when sprayed. It's deeper, richer and has notable ambergris and that "Tauerade" finish that dabbing shows less. It's lovely; a departure for him blending the sparkly bright citrus with just a touch of the mechanic. Oh, and the lasting power is great, so much so that I don't even have to add "for a citrus". Mr. Tauer is a very nice man who as always is open to chatting to all, and g-d love him loves California enough to camp out. Like in a tent. In the desert. Since my experience in Camp leans toward Joan and/or Bette I will leave him to that. But then, that's why I create spreadsheets and Powerpoints and he creates fragrances... He also previewed his fragrance coming in Oct, a lovely spicy number that plays with the notion of spice in the same way that Reverie au Jardin played with expectations of lavender. I did smell a couple of other things, previewing two new Commes des Garcons scents that must be jokes I'm not getting. One of the things that LuckyScent carries is Panhaligons, the veddy veddy British line. I only spritzed three, the sharp, bright Blenheim Bouquet, the eponymous (and perfect) Lily of the Valley and English Fern, which couldn't be more refreshing if it were served on the rocks. Orange Star is shipping in May and will be $120 for 50ML. Blenheim Bouquet and Lily of the Valley are $110, while English Fern is $125. All three are 100ML I have no idea about the C de G. Thanks for the tempting previews, Tom! I just know that Orange Star will be another great one. The Penhaligon English Fern sounds like a true love for me too.
However, now I am really curious about the new CdG scents! Just how weird ARE they, anyway? :-)

Tom, this description sounds fantastic. The "bloom" thing happens for me with every Tauer. I get that effect most with Vetiver Dance. Thanks to you and Andy for the drawing, I look forward to experiencing Orange Star soon.

I really don't "need" another bottle of anything but this is sounding better and better each time you write about it. I think ordering a sample will satisfy the urge...for a while anyway.
I agree with Kelley, an Orange Star sample is definitely a must very soon. I am sure I will fall in love though!

It isn't. There's no pie in it. It's like nothing you've smelled before..
a note about the October Tauer; I received a sample from winning one of the advent days (hurray!) and he spice is amazing. Here is what I wrote on MUA not long after:
So, I was lucky enough to be one of the Advent winners in Andy Tauer's draw. I won a bottle of Rose Chypree, which I love, and which has been accurately and lovingly reviewed by others. (really tenacious on me too, and very nice the next day) Andy kindly sent an extra entire discovery pack, which was unannounced but super sweet, PLUS a sample of eau d’épices, which the the lemming I would like to give all of you.
It is a green but spicy scent, the closest to a gourmand fragrance from Tauer, with cardamom well blended into a vetiver base. There is mace, nutmeg and a bunch of other notes, and you don't smell so much like you are cooking as you just smell good. Fantastically, wonderfully good.
This is what I wrote to Andy, in thanks and to ask about the release date:
I find it works so beautifully in so many contexts; outside, while cooking, snuggling with my sweetheart, reading. It opens up and has the perfect presence around me in the air, just floating very nearby. I love the way it warms and blends with my skin, and is both sensual and pleasurable (sometimes the two are difficult to find together) It's opening and long dry down are both great, but very, very different. The spices open up on my skin gorgeously. It's just a fantastic scent; both approachable and full of memories, past and waiting to be made. It really spoke to me.
And, I have to say, it also spoke to my sweetheart, who ordinarily is neutral to or doesn't enjoy perfume. But this one? Absolutely, he loved it.
And his answer on the release date? (accompanied by a very nice thank you) FALL of 2010.
CdG jokes? Ooh? Oh. Ordinary. Dang. :( I was hoping for more craziness.
I'm on a long-term quest for the perfect orange, though, so sounds like I want to try Orange Star.
