Summer Favorites

Alyssa
L’Artisan, Nuit de Tubereuse. Go ahead, say I‘ve fallen for the hype. I don’t care. Austin has been hit by one tropical thunderstorm after another for the last month and this stuff, with it’s supercharged pepper top, green mango heart and creamy, yet transparent floral drydown is just too perfect for the electricity before the rain comes, and the green swampiness that hangs in the air afterwards.

Beth
I have fallen in love this summer with Chaparral by Roxana Villa , in fact, I just can't stop wearing it. This intoxicating blend of white sage, soft woods and frankincense melt together to become a wild honey on my skin that's absolute passion unbridled...

Donna
I have to choose La Via del Profumo's African Night, its floral and fruity notes mingled with calming green and earthy essences that make it smell like the sweet breath of the Earth exhaling in the coolness of awakening life as the sun goes down, making it the perfect antidote to both heat and stress.

Kelley
Green Water by Jacques Fath (1947, reformulated 2008) - It is like bathing in cool peppermint tea with slices of orange and orange flowers floating all around you!

Linda
I've been wearing Lostmarch's Din Dan this summer. It is by far the softest fragrance in my inventory: a burst of not-too-sweet lemon sherbet that very quickly mellows into a skin scent reminiscent of lemon cookies, the fuzzy skin of apricots, and a clean musk that remains feather light all day. It's so simple and so perfect for the heat.

Marian
Khaltat Nokhba by Al Qurashi, enhances the usual trio of oud, rose and musk with floral, spicy and herbal notes- a dry and cool antidote to summer’s flaming oppression.

Marina
The green, icy metal armour of Futur by Piguet has been my defense against the cruel heat of this summer. I can't help but think of the spiky, thorny, dry earthiness of the re-edition as of a protective shield. There is also a certain hidden floral sumptuous within the arid sharpness of the scent. Well concealed amongst the green branches and blades of grass, flowers, jasmine and ylang, suddenly open up in very hot weather, adding another enjoyable dimension to this very successfully resurrected masterpiece.

Marla
During the day, I’ve been wearing everything from Annick Goutal’s Mandragore Pourpre to Ninfeo Mio, but in the evenings, if it’s warm and sultry, I’ve been enjoying Penhaligon’s Amaranthine, which reminds me so much of the tropical gardens of the lower latitudes I miss so much…

Tom
The scent I've been reaching for this summer is an oldie, and one that most likely should be the dead last that most people should wear in summer: Muscs Kublai Khan by Serge Lutens. It's warm, slightly feral embrace is just what I've been needing on these cool Los Angeles evenings.

If you would like to participate in a prize draw for a set of 10 summery samples (Marina's choice), please, say so in your comment. The winner will be chosen at random and announced next week. The draw is closed.

I've worn Chanel No. 19 more than anything this summer and it's worked perfectly for me. I switched it up over the weekend, though, and wore Lutens' Sa Majeste La Rose to a bridal shower. I was afraid it would bloom too much in the heat, but instead, the heat seemed to make it disappear.

I do so love a drawing! Please sign me up!

I love reading lists like this, thanks! I love MKK in summer, too, (although summer here means fleece jackets and cozy pants for the first part of the day), but the others are all new to me. I'm particularly intrigued by Chaparral, since I live in CA and love the smells here. And I can never turn down the chance to try an oud, so I ought to look for that Al Qurashi one as well...oh, and please enter me in the drawing - thanks!

Hello Perfume peeps,

I've been wearing Soivohle's Acoustic Flower- it's supposed to be gardenia but comes off as jasmine but even then reminds me of Carnal Flower without the florist chill, more in the evening garden after a hot day.
And also 10 CC because it is almost like my skin scent, it's me but better. Way better.

Please enter me in the draw,
I hope the Perfume Gods smile upon me this time. ;)

My current 3 summer fav's are Lutens L'Eau Serge Lutens, DK Iris and Hermes Voyage D'Hermes. I also love the newest Lubin additions, especially Lubin Itasca and Figaro...both gorgeous for the nice summer weather and into fall.
Would love to included into the draw for the sampler set :)

I enjoy reading a list like this, even though most of the favorites would never be my choice...I do love to read of other people's perspectives on perfumes. I often wear light musks and vanilla-based scents in summer but my all-time summer favorite is still YSL's Y. Please enter me in the draw! Thanks.

Summers are tough for me because I don't usually like the lighter summer fragrances, although I may have to go back to Chanel 19. I used to love it. Please enter me in the drawing. Thank you.

i have yet to find the perfect summer scent for me. Over the years, i've worn Eau de Revillon (too strong,) L'Artisan's premier figuier extreme (too much green left over,) viktor & rolfe Flower Bombe (too much,) The Different Company's Osmanthus, and most recently, Fleurs D'Oranger from Lutens. So far, nothing's perfect. I am content all winter to wear Carnal Flower, so why should this be so difficult? So far, Osmanthus comes closest to what i'm looking for, but there's something very icky in the drydown. Oranger is terrific, but more spring than summer. Just sent back Nana deBarry's Green- even ickier drydown, and trying Rosine's Rose d'Ete. But I'm not optimistic. Any suggestions for poor me?
And yes, of course summer samples would help so much. Please enter me, I hope I win!

I've been reaching for Jo Malone's and Penhaligon's Orange Blossom scents, PG's Papyrus de Ciane, Ava Luxe Incense [a lovely green incense], and a few vintage ones - Colony by Patou, Lubin Gin Fizz and Chanel no 19 - as well as a couple others. My Summer fragrance wardrobe is not very extensive and I would love to be entered in this drawing. It would be a treat to have Marina select some wonderful things. :-)

Love these group posts and yes, please enter me in the draw.

I've started wearing Hermes Voyage D'Hermes and Jo Malone's Blue Agava and Cacao with an occasional day of Jil Sander Sun. All work fine in the AC or when I have to brave the humidity and heat for yard work!

This summer I've mostly been wearing vetiver perfumes: Encre Noire, the Guerlain, the Lubin "Le Vetiver", etc. Even wore the new Prada Infusion de Vetiver. The grassy smell seems to go well with the heat and humidity of the last couple of weeks. Of course, every so often I need to go for something much more intense, like Ambre Sultan --- my wife likes that one.

Please do enter me in the draw. Who knows, maybe the samples will show me a way out of the vetiver labyrinth.

I love lists! And I love draws! Nuit de Tubereuse has slayed me as well. I like it during the day. At night: Amaranthine. For scent-sensitive outings I wear Silences or Philosykos--green things that won't offend.

I am always up for a prize draw, and I enjoyed reading what people are smelling like. I wish you'd come to a shopping center near me so I wouldn't have to smell D&G Light Blue quite so often (w/ apologies to anyone who likes the stuff....)

Yes! NdT is perfect - sadly it reacted poorly to my skin so I just had to pass along my bottle :-( But I've re-discovered Fracas, to fill the void left by NdT, and it has been shockingly wonderful on these hot sticky days (last time I tried it I found it cloying!)

Must try Amaranthine & Chaparral, and check out the others on this lovely list! :-) I would love to be entered into the draw, please? Thanks for hosting it! :-)

In this worst-of-the-worst weather I've been wearing Mandragore, AA Pamplelune, CdG Rhubarb, PdG Yuzu ab Irato, and L'A Jatamansi. If it lets up just a little, I'll also reach for Jardin en Mediterranee, Tiempe Passate, and Songes.

Chaparral sounds fabulous! I've been mostly wearing Serge Lutens Fleurs D' Oranger this summer (And my sample of Jubiliation XXV on cooler days)- I love how wafty it sometimes is.

I finally got to smell Musc Kublai Khan at the scent bar a while ago- and I couldn't smell anything..:( I hope I am not anosmic to the musky compounds (Though I could smell and loved the CB musk). Hopefully it was an old bottle..

Oh and I'd love to be entered in the draw!

I'm going through crazy amounts of both Magie Noir and Bandit in this heat. Likely either isn't considered a "hot weather" frag but to me they're perfect!

Oh...prize draw! Throw me in. I've been wearing vintage fragrances in the moderate west coast heat...the ones with musk in them seem to just fly. I am craving sultriness in my perfumes....
But I also crave AG Madragore. And AG Encens Flamboyant. For the first time Alahine smells good on me. Oh and I have a Rosine..a lemon zest one..and it's a lovely afternoon perfume.

I have been juggling this summer with Hascisch by Veejaga and Alfred Sung's Sung. By jugling I mean one on left side and the other on the right side. The result is that I have been stopped by strangers in my building at work who wanted to know what perfume I was wearing.
Please sign me up for the draw.

I love FM En Passant but I've been out for a while, so I've been rotating between samples of by Kilian Beyond Love, Guerlain Apres L'Ondee and occasionally when I am feeling special, a dab or two of a tiny sample of Arabian Oud Prince Diamini.

If its cold or overcast in Los Angeles, I don't mind putting on vanilla like M.Micallef Note Vanille or LM Vanilla-Gigembre.

I am really wanting to try L'artisan Nuit de Tuberueuse and MH Coeur d'Ete this summer but please enter me in the drawing, I'd love to try them all!

Regarding Al Qurashi Nokhba, its crazy expensive and not available in the U.S., thats why no one sells decants :(

I would love to be in the drawing. This summer Le Labo Poivre has worked just right for me. I don't really know if it's a summer scent, but this summmer has been very hot in NY and the cool, crisp pepper (although I realize pepper is a "hot" spice) seem just perfect. Strange, I know.

I've had a craving for citrus, white flowers and funk. So Chloe the original, Coral Flower, Sand & Sable, 5th Avenue and I've been toying with the idea of Elle, since Oxygene didn't seem to sit well.

I may simply have to bust out the Joy or the Organza and pry open the wallet for some Songes, Waikiki Pikake and Tahitian Gardenia.

Hope all of your summer experimentation's are going well and please enter me in the drawing as i would love to try Marina's summer picks :)

I'm also wearing a lot of Nuit de Tubereuse this summer, but on the hottest days nothing beats AG Neroli, by itself, or layered with Motia Attar (night-blooming jasmine) from Tigerflag. Or sometimes Le Labo Jasmin 17 or Guerlain AA Flora Nerolia. Never enough jasmine and orange blossom in the heat.
Please enter me in the draw if I'm not too late. Thanks!

I'd also love to be entered in the summery sample drawing please! Thanks :)
