Special Foodie Thursday: Water

It's hot.
It's humid.
I don't like it.
It's just a little too warm to contemplate reviewing anything when the news is telling not to leave the house and a trip to the mailbox leaves you a dripping mess. So let's talk water.
I remember that the tap water in NYC when I lived there was absolutely delicious. The water in LA isn't as great, but it's perfectly acceptable (and for Beverly Hills, much better tasting than it was when we used our own. Having its own water kept it separate from Los Angeles, but it also gave companies like Arrowhead a business case for existing.) I have to confess that I buy bottled water (Trader Joe's usually). I tell myself that it's part of my earthquake preparedness kit (I try to keep a case or so and rotate them out), but really, it's just better tasting.
I don't get the whole designer water thing. I don't feel that Evian is so much finer than TJ's finest that I should pop $4 extra a bottle. I don't believe that my water can be all that "smart", or that I need ones with electrolytes.
But on a day like today when it's in the 90's and unusually humid (yes, I know other places have it worse, but I moved away from those other places to avoid this), a really cold water is my favorite thing in the world.

I usually drink water from a Brita filter pitcher, but the tap water here in Portland is actually very good. The best tap water I ever had was in a little town in Maine where my relatives lived. It was so delicious I couldn't stop drinking it when we went there on summer vacation. Sadly, the town has now gotten bigger and they have chlorinated it. :-(
Given the choice, my bottled water preference is Dasani. The minerals they add make it especially thirst-quenching for some reason and I like to have it on hand for extra hydration when it's especially hot and humid.

I had a Brita, but it seemed more expensive than just buying water with the filters..
Dasani is good. But I think TJ's at $0.49 for a litre is good enough. I'm drinking it now..
Getting cross at how much bottled water costs. Don't like chlorinated/flourided tap water either, but find if I put enough ice into it, can't taste the chemicals! Add a slice of lime and not only does it taste good, but looks nice too.

I have a refrigerator with the cold water/ice in the door. And I got a nifty tip from a friend; put a cinnamon stick in a pitcher of ice water. Yum!
I'm in Australia and the water is fine however I'm more inclined to drink if its mineral water. Not sure if you have Coles in the US but like a Woolworths. Their 1.5 litre sparkling MW is 75 cents so I stock up on those. For a treat a semi-sparkling San Pellegrino is divine!
Water filtered thru an in-sink filter is fine by me. I drink it at room temperature, too. I buy bottled water when I'm in a store and thirsty, and I get whatever's cheap.
We actually have a water store in town. They filter the city water three times with reverse osmosis and the water tastes divine! Five gallons is $2. I only buy bottled water if I am out and then the cheapest. I save money for perfume.
I love Gerolsteiner sparkling water.It's the fizziest crispest best tasting sparkling water I've found.It's like drinking a dessert

Living in earthquake country we're supposed to keep a supply of water on hand, so I do need to keep some bottled stuff.

I love sparkling water. I don't put it in the same category as still. One's a necessity, the other's a pleasure.
Tap water in Seattle is very good. It probably comes straight from a melting glacier somewhere in the mountains. That's what I drink, mostly, at room temperature, out of a real glass - none of this plastic throwaway stuff. I do love fizzy water, so once in a while I'll get Trader Joe's as a treat. If I'm going to pay for water, it should have something extra like fizziness and/or citrus flavor.
NYC's tap water is still pretty good. For variety, I use a Sodastream unit to add fizz.

I use bottled to keep it in the earthquake kit. Along with canned goods. That and emergency perfume..

from what I remember NYC tap water is great..
I drink filtered water, but if it's bottled I try to stick with Deer Park or other somewhat smaller brands. I swear Coke's Dasani has a ton of salt added.

We have pretty great tap water where I live in British Columbia. On the hottest days I just add ice and few slices of whatever citrus I have on hand. I also like Pellegrino when I'm feeling fancy.
NYC tap for me. It's not quite as good as it was a generation ago, but it's better than any other water from a public water supply that I've had. The closest bottled water to it is Poland Spring.
The water here in Huntington Beach tastes like something that was drained off a kennel. We buy bottled water from Costco for the most part, but barring that, I love Crystal Geyser.
Y'all should try some cucumber slices in your water, it's awesome. Cucumbers and lemon together are also great.
I buy bottle water for my dogs, we get warnings here not to give this water to babies. Whatever is cheap from Wal Mart.
