Utterly Random Friday: An Ode to Boden

Do you like Boden as much as I like it? Probably not... I look forward to the arrival of the escapist little catalogs more than to my W or Allure. More even than to Perfumer & Flavorist. I would love to live on the pages of Boden...in the carefully understated and deliberately casual world of the inconspicuous (British upper-ish) middle class elegance, the world of fun skirts, comfy jersey tops and sidewalk cafes. What I especially enjoy are the little questions that models answer in each catalog (to further cultivate the warm feeling of "just-like-you-and-me-ness" that permeates everything Boden). Today I decided to answer the questions from Boden Autum 2007 together with Mr Colombina...Imagine us strolling hand in hand in Notting Hill, dressed expensively low-key...a laughing child and a dog running ahead of us...

LOOOOOOOOOL at Mr.C's "porn", "scrubbing the toilet" and "most excited about finishing this survey". the latter sounds exactly like something my husband would say (if he would even bother to answer any of its questions, which is highly doubtful in itself ;)).

I'll answer my own couple of questions:

1. Q: my body is aching from the lemming to buy?
A: Fifi Chachnil, Lipstick Rose, White Aoud, Agent Provocateur Strip.

2. Q: fingers tightly tightly crossed for?
A: my dream plan for a late honeymoon (a few days) in Paris this November to come to reality.

have a wonderful weekend, Cs! :-D

Mr C,
Only if it's an elegantly written classic, say Anais Nin.

Lee,
I always knew there was a reason I liked you so, apart from the fact that you are kind and funny and write great reviews.

Now, see, I don't even know what Boden is (well, now, I do a bit). Will you ever speak to me again?

Loved reading the answers.

Tabac Blond above most things:) (cuir mauresque does a funny hippie thing on me).

Judith,
I would always speak to you.

Cuir Mauresque doesn't like me either (anymore). I don't know what happened. :-(

Colombina,

Sure ... we could go the route of the 'classics' this time ...Anais Nin, Kate Chopin, D.H. Lawrence, Jackie Collins ... whoever.

OK so maybe not Collins.

By the way ... a little FYI trivia ... since you mention Ms. Nin... Did you know her second husband was named Mr. Pole? I find that interesting.

You can look it up!

Mr. C.

Oh, you two are flirting on the blog, that's so sweet :)
I loved this btw & um, my bedside reading is Valerie Steele's Fetish (got it in a clothing swap. it IS about clothes after all) & Barbara Barg's Origin of the Species. And Calvin & Hobbes. Can't imagine what that says about me.
Tabac Blonde vs Cuir Mauresque = very torn + undecided

I am soooo with you on scrubbing out the tub. Lord, I hate that. Yay, Piment Brulant.

Uh, and I thought Boden was a small town in northern Sweden, feared among 19 year old males as the worst and coldest place to do your military service?

Ok, I'll answer the perfume-related question. "Most" is tricky since I wear a different one every day, but "right now" must mean the last 3 days, so it's Chypre Rouge, Jicky and Mitsouko.

Erin,
What is it about tubs, eh? Just can't stand cleaning them.

T,
Love the new avatar! is it you? Such a great picture.
Is it cold where you are now? I've been to York (it is York, right?) once and remember it as the coldest, most windy place on earth...albeit stunningly beautiful in places. Your list seems like such a cozy, warm one- for cold weather.

I'm a little late - had tons of trouble with security settings to post a comment - ugh!! Anyway - would anyone more talented than I be able to tell me what the difference is between Tabac Blond and Cuir Mauresque? I tried both yesterday and wished I could distinquish it.... thanks!

Hi anonymous,

They are very similr to my nose as well. The leather note (isobutyl quinoline sp?) is practically the same. Its more intense and rich in Tabac blond (I have only tried the edt). In CM there is a thin layer of orange peel which hovers over this note and lends a muted sweetness to the accord. TB has a smoky vanilla base, while CM integrates an incense and clove notes to create a less vanillic but slightly cooler base. CM is certainly one of the quieter Lutens on my skin, and its definitely not a very original scent considering how similar it is to TB. However I love to wear it and will take it over the apricot fruit bowl that is Daim Blond anyday.

M, It's meee! And look what I've got, I've got a golden ticket! (Does obnoxious Veruca-smile)It doesn't look a lot like me though, I have my natural blond hair colour now.

I've been colder places, but yes, York's rather windy and rainy. When I first came here from the utterly chilly and autumnal Sweden I was amazed by the fine, sunny, late summer weather though. The windows are draughty, but with my red-hot radiator and a steaming cuppa I think I'll live. ;)

I just checked in the perfume stores... such a depressing sight... All the lovelies are locked up behind counters and guarded by scary ladies waving test strips with the "latest"... Although I saw a really tempting sale of classics from houses like Grès, Rochas and Elizabeth Arden for £10-20 in a shop window...

Thank you Faizan! I like both of these very much (and prefer both to Daim Blond too)... one thing, I guess the Tabac Blond is easier to get than CM when you live in the states...

Signed, Carol (not anonymous... just having trouble with signing my name too!)

P.S. Sopranos and VW Rabbit - 4 doors and orange. So ugly, but they were my very own wheels, so wonderful!
