Heat Wave

By Tom

Well the madness that is Los Angeles weather continues apace. Last week it was rain and lows in the low 40's with daytime temps not that much higher. This week we're topping out into the 80's, breaking records. Not that I'm complaining, mind you, but those snuggy scents I was enjoying so in the rainy cool days are a little much in this heat.

So I am reaching for some of the lighter stuff. like Annick Goutal Eau de Sud and Hadrien, Acqua di Parma Colonia and Hermès Eau d'OrangeVert.

What do you reach for when the temps soar? Let us know in the comments,

I'm looking forward to all my Hermes, Phaedon Coton Egyptien, my combo of Vent Vert and Squeeze, a bunch of stuff. I'd like a bottle of Clair de Musc; I'm craving powdery things lately.

What does it mean, this soaring temperature of which you speak? It's 20 degrees with a howling north wind and piles of snow here in the Midwest. I am looking longingly at my bottle of Bronze Goddess.

I was late to the game with Bvlgari Au The Vert; just found it a few years back and still love it in the heat. I also tend to like violets in the heat,f or some reason and reach for LA Vert Violette when the temps soar.

What I used most in the scorching days of last summer was Roger et Gallet The Vert. It's just a cool, sparkly citrus that I've found reasonably enough on eBay to be happy to douse myself in it. Less of a bargain, but quite pleasant and intriguing, is Il Profumo Touaregh. (I don't normally like melon notes, but this does something quite nice with melon and spice and lavender - odd but true.) Just recently discovered E. Arden Spiced Green Tea & I think it will be great for this summer. Cool rhubarb, without the sugary vanillic thing that other perfume rhubarbs (Burberry Brit Red and CdG Sherbet Series Rhubarb for two) have. Shall I send you a sampler, Tom?

I love and adore rhubarb. I used to eat it out of the garden like celery. I'd love to try that scent.

Some of my favorite hot weather scents are:
GAP Heaven (I wore it in college so it'll always have a special place in my heart. ;) )
Clinique Happy
Fresh Hesperides Grapefruit
Ralph Lauren Blue
Ralph Lauren Romance
Sometimes I'll lose my mind for a bit and put on my all-time favorite, Tom Ford Black Orchid, but on the hottest, most humid days, that's a bit much.
